Robyn and Cole meet at the airport in Chicago while waiting for the connecting flight to Portage. When her backpack's strap breaks, Cole helps her retrieve the items that fell to the floor. They talked during the whole fight, and when they arrive in Portage, Robyn gives Cole a sizzling kiss goodbye and invites him to visit her father's bar. Written in the third person narrative, the author weaves a heartwarming tale of romance with drama, comedy, and hockey added in the mix. But it also has a lot of comedic relief in the form of the sassy one-liners, and tension filled drama in the hockey scenes.

The author has created a quirky cast of characters who are realistic, engaging and complex people. I absolutely loved Robyn's sassy personality: she's strong, bossy, feisty and demanding, she's a tell it like it is kind of girl! Taking Charge Mandy Baggot 9781938404023 Books Reviews

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a nice escape from the everyday. The characters were fun and the story line interesting. Mandy Baggot did an excellent job of making you feel like you were a part of the community and just 'one of the guys'.
I also loved the way she wrote the family. Not all families are perfect, there's a little dysfunction everywhere, and that makes this story more true to life.
The pace was a little fast, I sometimes felt like I was running a marathon to keep up. But I like fast paced books. It was certainly never boring.
I really liked this book. It kept me intrigued and I had to keep reading to see if I was right. That being said, I felt like the leadup to the main storyline secret wasn't that secretive and I had figured out what was going on well before the actual reveal. It was kinda surprising that it took Robyn that long to get it, to me. All in all it was a pretty good read. Kept me up late one night towards the end because I wanted to finish it and make sure I was right. I think the scenes at the end could have been a little more detailed but not worth down rating the book over.
I enjoyed reading Takine Charge. Robyn returns to the small town where she grew up in Michigan. She is returning from London, where she has lived for quite a few years. She meets Cole at the airport. It just so happens he is also going to Portage, Michigan. I loved Robyn, who is a strong female that lives for hockey and likes to take apart cars. Cole is a hot, smart, caring guy and a great hockey player. It's a wonderful story about two wounded people who fall in love. There are a whole cast of characters in Portage who add laughs to the story. Great story!
I loved this book! It was a fun read! I love the characters! Robyn is independent, headstrong, opinionated and vulnerable all at the same time. Cole is reserved, confused and desperate to find something in this world that will ground him. Together they are cute, funny and perfect in their imperfections. I laughed so much through this book! Yes there are serious subject matters in this book but that is not all the book is about. It leaves room for humor and never do you feel a bunch of unnecessary angst and turmoil. I really enjoyed this book so much I have reread it already.
A very enjoyable read. I can imagine this book as a movie - and even picked out the actors for each character. Robyn and Cole fell in love at first sight and this was a whirlwind romance, with its ups and downs. There is little mystery - which keeps you guessing for a while as to who did it. Robyn is a very unique "take charge" character, but it is easy to relate to her, while Cole accepts her completely for what she is and loves her for it. Throw in a madcap stepmother to be, a solid best friend, and a wild hockey team, and you have a really good combination of characters. I highly recommended this book, and I will definitely be buying more books by this author.
I saw this book as a freebie on Facebook. I decided to give it a try as this was a new author for me. I have found a lot of new authors this way! This story grabbed me as my husband recently had a heart attack and double bypass surgery with diabetes just like Robyn's dad Eddie. I have often felt like her at times about crazy family and jobs and friends who you thought cared about you but not is a good way. Even Robyn's new found friend Cole, who she met on a plane, was undecided on whether to be with her or not. There are lots of twists to this story and they are fairly easy to figure out. The fun or heartbreak is to see if the characters get it figured out. Mandy Baggot is a good author. I will be on the lookout for more books by this author!
