This is another excellent book in the "Anatomy of the Ship" series. As with the others it starts with a technical history of the particular class of ship, which is followed by photographs, and most importantly, a series of line drawings. (The drawings comprise 80% of the total pages in the book.) The drawings in this book seem unusually detailed, and include lots of supplemental drawings of machinery and weapons. Perhaps because the Flower class corvettes were relatively small ships, there was room for more detail than for a much larger ship, such as the HMS Hood.

If you are a model maker, or if you just like the kind of detail a book like this provides, you can't get anything better. But if you are looking for an operational history or lots of information on the tactical and strategic use of these ships, look elsewhere.

I don't know anything about ships. I bought it as a gift for someone who is interested in WWII planes and ships. This book gives a history of the ship in the first half of the book, and the 2nd half of the book is all detailed ship drawings of probably every single part that is used to build the ship. It looks pretty thorough and informative if you are into this hobby.
has everything a modeler will need to do a museum class model of a flower class corvette. The detail photos are perfect.
Aggassiz pronounced Aga-see. This book is a must for anyone interested in or making a model of a Flower Class Corvette. It has brief history of it's type many interesting photogrphs, a mass of 3-view and isometric drawings covering almost all you would need and want to know about about this type of Warshipship
This is the one book you can use to build your own Flower Class Corvette /Model if has tons of photo, drawings and information. It set the stage for the others that have followed. It is work every cent you pay for a copy.
Recently received this book and I'm not disappointed if you are planning to buy a model of this type of ship or you already have it this book is what you'll need lot of information and drawings for a good detailing project.
This work is as complete a technical work on the Flower Class corvette as one is likely to find.

In keeping with this series of books it provides the reader with a technical description, photographs and scale line drawings on every conceivable aspect of this class. This work also provides a valuable look at the developments of this class of warship including refits, Modified Flowers and the Castle Class Frigate giving the reader a very complete history of development of a type of warship that has been overshadowed in most historical works by other vessels.

Like most of the books of this series, I can not recommend this work highly enough.
The Flower Class Corvette was a lengendary ship design that typified the war against Hitler's U-Boat. They were pressed into service, based on a whale catcher design, because the ships could be efficiently built in large numbers by yards accustomed to launching similar ships for commercial use. These small anti-submarine vessels held the line until faster, more capable convoy escorts like the River Class Frigates came on line. Any fan of author Nicholas Monserrat knows all about what Corvette duty was like, and if you buy a copy of AOTS "The Flower Class Corvette Agassiz," also consider buying Monserrat's novel, "The Cruel Sea."

In this Anatomy of the Ship volume, the plans and photos are top notch, among the best presented in the series. Everything is there for the reader to get a clear idea of how these important ships were built. The precise plans show virtually every nut, bolt and weld seam. You could easily build a nice scale model of a typical early war, short forecastle corvette from this book alone.

I have original Royal Canadian Navy plans for the early corvettes and the drawings in this book are right-on, agreeing with the official blueprints in all respects. But the plans in this book go far beyond what's available in official archives. Measurements were taken from actual surviving corvettes preserved as museum ships or still serving at the time of publication in foreign navies. Surviving plans and photos are translated into fine scale renderings, impressive in their detail, giving the ship modeler for the first time drawings that rival those that have, up till now, been only available to aircraft and model railroad buffs.

If you have a hankering to build a detailed replica of a small convoy escort that beat the odds in a big war, definitely get this book. I very highly recommend it.
