I selected this for my Intro to World Religions course last semester, along with several other texts. Although I have the utmost regard for Huston Smith, I was looking for something more current, and hopefully a little more approachable for non-religion majors. Overall, this is a good text. It is well-written, approachable, concise, and covers all of the major (in terms of numbers of adherents) world religions. On the downside, it gives only a brief nod to some smaller yet vital religious traditions (1-2 pages). In fact, its overall "flaw," if it can be considered such, is that it lacks the depth needed to really dig into the religions. It felt a bit like a travel guide, though academically quite sound. I would recommend this to someone wanting basic information about the world religions, but if you're after something that really explores the depth and heart of the traditions, you'll need to look further, or at least combine this with something like Smith's classic work.

This book gives a short review of the worlds major religions. I will use it this winter in my bible study group as a education tool. We are all Gods people and it is good to share our similarities and except our differences with respect.
Good resource!
Too brief. We were hoping for more indepth information.
This Michael Keene book was very informative and has a wide range of vocabulary, however the vocabulary spellings were quite off and the Eastern Philosophical Religions or Philosophies were rarely included in a way that seemed as if they were overlooked or less important. Other than that, this is a great introductory religions book! I just wouldn't recommend it as a final study.
Explains the different religions marvelously. I had to buy this as a textbook for my World Religions course and I actually read the whole book (something I would not have done with a normal textbook). I loved it so much that I bought some extras as presents for my friends and family.
