The Mischievous Bride The Clearbrooks Book 4 edition by Teresa McCarthy Romance eBooks

I absolutely love Teresa. McCarthy's writing. Her words and ability to convey emotion are very good and I find myself, in the good parts of her books, flying through each page, anxious to know how the story is going to play out. The Rejected Suitor was hilarious and romantic and wonderful, so I tried her next book, The Wagered Bride. It was extremely yo-yo for me, left me emotionally exhausted and not even caring what happened next because I didn't want to get my hopes up to have them dashed yet again. I love McCarthy's writing so much I still wanted to give her another shot. So I tried The Mischievous Bride. Her storyline is again too yo-yo for me, although significantly better than The Wagered Bride. Millie claims she loves Marcus and when he looks, touches or kisses her, she is filled with desire to be with this man forever. But then after each "high" moment, she is crushed within seconds by him for one reason or another. Talk about your buzz kill! Millie "loves" Marcus, but why would she when he keeps "breaking her heart?" As the book progresses, she is less and less emotionally into him. Then Marcus figures out he really loves her, which is what Millie required in a future husband, and his proclamation of love and kisses all of a sudden make it better? I'm sorry, I don't believe it. That is not how it happens in real life nor do I think that is how it should be in a good romance novel. Marcus even borders on possessive and creepy. Even though it was better than The Wagered Bride, it was still a let down compared to The Rejected Suitor. I'm not sure I can get as excited about her other novels as I was about her first one now I've seen a pattern of exaggerated yo-yo ing going on in her books. I'm hoping McCarthy will improve this flaw so that her novels can really be enjoyed. I think she has a LOT of talent, so I really hope she takes this into consideration.

(McCarthy: Think of your story as linear. What does it look like if drawn out. Is it up, down, up, down, does it gradually increase with slight dips along the way, etc. Now think about your reader and if it is too emotionally exhausting for them, change it. In real relationships, something has to get a little better to keep a person in the relationship or they will bail. It's called progress, becoming better at being a couple as the relationship develops. Without progress, there is nothing but emotionally sick people that would take that kind of abuse or lust. It is completely unrealistic for someone to be slammed emotionally time and time again and then miraculously have a happy ending. Please, please, please work on that! I would really love to read AND enjoy more of your books!)

The Mischievous Bride The Clearbrooks Book 4 edition by Teresa McCarthy Romance eBooks Reviews

This is great finish to the Clearbrooks! I really enjoyed seeing where many of the couples from previous books are now! Milli has been a great character and I was so glad to see her and Marcus together! He fought it until the end but Milli took a great chance and it paid off!
Nice and fluffy, a quick read - I thought I’d probably want to read more of the series, but by the time i finished this one i realized I’d have to read them spaced pretty far apart or I’d die of boredom. There’s just too much fluff and not enough content to read a bunch of them close together.
I did not like Milli. She did so many stupid things and was allowed to get away with them. The Hero was even stupider. Knowing that she would always do the opposite of what he demanded, he would proceed with ordering her around and telling her that she could not do anything. So of course she would proceed running all over the place even knowing her life was in danger. I liked her solution at the end but it was tedious getting there.
I have read just about everything Ms. McCarthy has written. She usually has spunky, darling heroines and yummy, handsome heroes. Lots of passionate kissing but no explicit sex. As soon as I see a new book by her you can bet I will download it. Keep up the good work Teresa.
Love Teresa's books. She writes clean romances that do not lack chemistry or intrigue. I loved how Millicent was spunky and immature but despite her shortcomings, she was still loveable and i found myself rooting for her to succeed! Marcus is also one of my favorite Clearbrook's. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!
You will have to have a lot of patience and understanding to get through this book. Millicent went from being a cute precocious girl in the previous books to being a spoiled, selfish, ridiculous woman. And the fact that all of the other characters put up with it was completely unbelievable. I actually was hoping the villain would win this time. Terrible character. I actually found myself hoping something bad would happen to her. Disappointing.
Having read over 150 books on my , I can't believe this is my first review. I have to say I almost did not purchase this book as the only review at that time was negative. But after reading the book I didn't want others to miss out on this fun story.

I thought Milli was an adorable, precocious, child who grew up to be such an interesting character. I am so glad I went ahead and purchased the book as I could not put it down.

My only disappointment in the entire series is that I believe Roderick and Jane deserved their own book or at least a more developed story, and not just a bi-line in the other books.

I would have loved to have seen an epiloge in this last book 5 years later showing a day in the life of all of these characters.
